Vino Volo to the rescue!!

I had a crappy week. I mean it was pretty awful. Anything that could go wrong did and I felt completely out of control. When I have weeks like this, the only thing that helps is a glass (or bottle) of wine and a good prayer session with my mommy. Thankfully, I have friends that won't like we drink alone so I was dragged out of the house to downtown Bethesda to check out Vino Volo. Located on Bethesda Row, Vino Volo is a wine bar and accompanying wine shop that offers a flight style tasting menu with lunch, dinner and small plates.

The bar has a very cozy feel and cute autumn decorations. We sat in the alcove closest to the door so we could people watch as we sipped on our selections. I started with the 'Sparkling Sensations' flight which featured a Chardonnay Blend, Xarello Blend and Prosecco for $11. The flights are reasonable priced and grouped really well. What's also really helpfully is that the flight is presented with an information card for each wine featured. It tells us the winery, grape, wine and year as well as tasting notes. My friend is not a big wine drinker so she really appreciated the info cards. She legit thought she was a sommelier by the time we left LOL. I followed up the 'Sparkling Sensations' with the 'French Connection' featuring a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Grenache Blend for $15. The star of the show was definitely the Sauvignon Blanc. As for food, we tried the truffle popcorn and the bread pudding. We inhaled the popcorn-likely literally it was gone in 5 minutes. The rosemary sea salt really was a nice touch.  The bread pudding was definitely a no for me. I like my BP to be light and fluffy. I recommended they consider changing the bread used to French bread or my personal fave, Challah bread. Another note- if you are into dessert wine, they do have a dessert flight but it's not on the menu. Just ask your server and they will give you a rundown of options.

I also need to give a big shout out to our server, Ajaz. He was AMAZING!! Super fun, gave good recommendations and very attentive while we were there. He even hooked me up with a free tasting of this month's Loyalty club wine. If you download their app (it's free!!), you get $2 specialty wine tastes and depending on spending levels, discounts on wine purchases, and complimentary amuse bouche every time you visit.

I definitely will be headed back here in the future! If you go, let me know what you thought and what you enjoyed on the menu.
